What bits are there?

Bits come in many different designs. At Winparts you will find the inbus, ph, flat head, pz, torx and the many teeth. We will further explain the different types for you below.

The inbus bit can be recognized by its hexagonal shape and is therefore used on screws with a hexagonal cavity. The inbus shape is also called the hex. Hex keys are often supplied with these screws. Still, bits in a bit holder or drill often work better.

The Phillips head is one of the most commonly used screws. The crosshead can be divided into the PH and the PZ. The PZ crosshead has extra notches and the PZ crosshead does not have these notches. The PZ Phillips screws have a little more grip due to the extra notches. It is important to distinguish the two crosshead bits from each other. Using the wrong variant can quickly destroy the bits and screw.

The flat head screw is also known as the slotted head. This screw can be recognized by the single straight line (the minus sign). This screw offers little grip and is therefore rarely used. If you do come across a flat head screw, the flat bit will come in handy! To find the right flat bits for the screw it is important to pay attention to the thickness of the slot.

The torx screw is a screw with a lot of grip. Torx bits have 6 points and can be recognized by the shape of a star. If there is too much play on the screw with the torx, the teeth will quickly break. So make sure that you fit the bits properly on the screw before you get started.

The polygon resembles the torx screw, but has even more teeth. For this reason, these bits are also called the multi-torx bits. The polydent has 12 points and therefore has even more grip than the torx.

Which bits do I need?

To find out which bits you need, it is important to look closely at the screw that needs to be loosened. Always take the time to see which bit has the correct dimensions. This prevents too much play between the bit and the screw head. Too much slack would not only destroy the screw, but also destroy the bit. That would of course be a shame.

Are you going to use a drill? Then make sure you use it at the lowest possible speed. This way, too much force is not transferred to the screw and you do not break it. Most drills also require an adapter. With an adapter, the bits can be placed on the drill.

Screwdriver bits

Everyone probably uses a screwdriver at some point. However, there are many different types and sizes of screws that require a different type of screwdriver to be used. Think, for example, of the cross head or the slotted head. Bits are a good replacement for the screwdriver. These bits can be placed in a bit holder or in the drill.
