Brake dust shield

The brake dust shield has three important functions. Firstly, it protects the brake components from dust. If this dust accumulates, moisture can stick to it, leading to rust. In addition, the dust ensures that there is less grip between the brake discs and pads, or that they overheat due to increased friction. This not only extends your brake distance, it also causes strange noises and higher wear of brake components. If your brake dust shields are worn, it is wise to replace them quickly.

Installing a brake dust shield

When replacing or installing a brake dust shield, it is important that the parts fit together properly. By entering your car's registration number, you will see suitable parts for your specific car model. This makes it easy to find what you need. The brake dust shield is mounted behind the brake rotors, so to replace it you will need to remove the wheel and brakes. Make sure you use the right tools, such as a sturdy jack and axle stands, and that you are careful.

The brake dust shield is held in place by a number of bolts and can often be removed with a good ratchet set. While you are at it, it is a good idea to clean all the mounting points and also the brake rotors with a wire brush. Also purchase new bolts for your new brake dust shield. This way, you can be sure that everything is properly secured.

The purpose of the brake dust shield is to capture and direct brake dust, which is made up of metal and rust particles from the brake linings, away from other parts of the braking system of the car.
