Engine camshaft

The camshaft is a crucial component for controlling the intake and exhaust valves. The shaft is driven by the crankshaft via the timing belt or timing chain. The lobes on the shaft push against the valve tappets, which open the valves at the right time to allow air in and out of the cylinders.

If the camshaft is broken, it will cause problems with the ignition. Exhaust gases cannot escape, or not enough air enters the cylinders. This prevents the fuel from burning properly. The engine will misfire, and the engine management light on your dashboard will illuminate. This problem can be caused by various engine components, so it's important to read the fault code with an OBD scanner.

Engine camshaft replacement

If your camshaft is broken, you'll want to have it replaced as soon as possible to prevent further damage. In most modern cars, the camshaft is mounted in the cylinder head. In older models, the camshaft is located at the bottom of the engine block. This is much more complicated to access. Replacing the camshaft therefore requires the right knowledge, good tools, and an extra pair of hands. Whether you want to do this yourself or prefer to leave it to a professional, you will find the right parts for your car at Winparts.

Engine camshaft

The engine camshaft controls the opening and closing of your engine's valves. Your car's intake valves regulate how much air mixes with the fuel for combustion, and the exhaust valves ensure that the exhaust gases flow out again. The timing of the valves opening is crucial for smooth ignition. The camshaft pushes the valves open at precisely the right moment.
