The sump, or oil pan, is located at the bottom of the crankcase and cools the engine oil. Its position on the underside of the car makes it susceptible to damage if you hit a bump in the road. This is especially risky for lowered cars.
The sump on your car is often made of aluminium or sheet steel and is sometimes protected by a piece of plastic. Moisture and wear and tear can cause the sump to leak. This results in an oil stain under your car and will quickly become noticeable. If the sump is leaking oil, it will result in an MOT failure and is also harmful to your car and bad for the environment.
