Oil pan

The sump is connected to the engine with a sump gasket. It's visible when you look underneath your car. If you don't see any cracks or leaks, there's a good chance the sump gasket is leaking.

You can replace a damaged sump yourself. This can be done with or without a jack, although it's easier with one. Keep in mind that this is a messy job. So be prepared with an oil drain pan, the correct tools, and all the necessary parts such as the drain plug and sealing ring.

Oil pan

The sump, or oil pan, is located at the bottom of the crankcase and cools the engine oil. Its position on the underside of the car makes it susceptible to damage if you hit a bump in the road. This is especially risky for lowered cars.

The sump on your car is often made of aluminium or sheet steel and is sometimes protected by a piece of plastic. Moisture and wear and tear can cause the sump to leak. This results in an oil stain under your car and will quickly become noticeable. If the sump is leaking oil, it will result in an MOT failure and is also harmful to your car and bad for the environment.
