Cylinder head gasket

The cylinder head gasket, or simply head gasket, ensures that the cylinder head seals tightly onto the engine block. The cylinder head closes off the cylinders of the engine block. It also ensures that the engine oil and coolant remain separate. In many modern engines, the cylinder head also houses the inlet and exhaust valves that move air through the engine. It is therefore very important that the engine block and cylinder head are connected in an airtight manner.
