Tow bar wiring and adapters

A universal towbar wiring kit is designed to connect the lighting and electrical functions of a trailer, caravan, or bike rack to your car. These kits are universal, meaning they are compatible with various vehicle models. They contain all the necessary cables and connectors to establish the connection.

How does a universal towbar wiring kit work?

The operation of a universal towbar wiring kit is quite simple. The wiring kit provides the electrical connection between your vehicle and the towbar, ensuring that signals such as brake lights, indicators, and tail lights are correctly transmitted to the trailer or bike rack.

Connecting a universal towbar wiring kit

Installing a universal towbar wiring kit is usually straightforward, but it's important to follow the instructions. Generally, it works as follows:

1. Make sure you have all the necessary tools and the installation manual at hand.

2. Follow the colour coding and connect the cables to the correct connections on your vehicle.

3. Secure the cables firmly and make sure they cannot come loose while driving.

4. After installation, check that all lights are working correctly.

Buying a universal towbar wiring kit

When choosing the right universal towbar wiring kit, there are a few important points to consider. Make sure the wiring kit is compatible with your vehicle and the equipment you want to connect. Also check which plugs and connectors are included in the kit. A towbar plug adapter may be required if your vehicle or trailer has a connection other than the standard 7- or 13-pin plug.
