Windscreen washer reservoir

The windshield washer reservoir is a storage tank for the windshield washer fluid. This part is made of white or clear plastic and has a removable cap. The reservoir is the storage place for the windshield washer fluid. You can spray this liquid on the windows while on the road, after which the wipers will wipe the window. By removing the removable wiper reservoir cap, you can easily top up the fluid.

When the windows are dirty, it can obstruct your view. It is therefore important to regularly check whether the windshield washer fluid is still at the correct level. This way you can easily clean the windows at any time. Do you notice that the liquid runs out quickly? Then it may be that the windshield washer reservoir is leaking.

Windshield washer reservoir leaking

A leaking windshield washer reservoir is a common problem. Because the reservoir is located in the engine compartment of the car, the plastic will have to deal with large temperature differences. The plastic reservoir can quickly become brittle due to temperature differences. The plastic can therefore easily tear and leak. A leak in the reservoir can be recognized by a rapidly falling fluid level. You may also find a puddle of windshield washer fluid under the car.

Is the windshield washer reservoir of your car leaking? Then make sure to replace the reservoir as soon as possible. This way you can clean the windows again when they are dirty. In addition, this prevents your view from being obstructed by the dirty windows.

Replace windshield washer reservoir

In most cases, the windshield washer reservoir is not repairable and you will have to replace it. It differs per car model and year of manufacture, how the reservoir should be removed and replaced. In most cases, the reservoir is located near the engine block against the mudguard. In short, replacing the windshield washer reservoir works in the following way:

1. Remove the windshield washer fluid from the reservoir.

2. Locate the reservoir and loosen the bolts holding the reservoir.

3. Remove the plug which is connected to the washer pump.

4. Disassemble the fluid line from the reservoir. This can sometimes be secured with a clamp. You can use pliers to get it loose.

5. Remove the windshield washer reservoir from the car. Next, be sure to remove the washer pump from the reservoir before discarding it. The washer pump can be reused in the new reservoir, if it is still in good condition.

6. Then install the washer pump into the new reservoir.

7. You can now install the new windshield washer reservoir in the car.

8. Also reinstall the plug and fluid line properly in the reservoir.

9. Finally, refill the reservoir with the correct windshield washer fluid.

10. Test that everything is properly connected by turning on the windshield washers.
